REVIEW: Zurii brings American soul and South African culture to the table

We had an opportunity to review the newly launched Zurii longue at the heart of Greenside, where we got to experience the American soul and South African culture in the same pot. Zurii is not a restaurant nor a club, but a collection of ideas in a single space where black food, music, art, culture, conversations, and vibes are promoted.

Zurii brings a speakeasy vibe for matures looking to relax, chill, have a cocktail and good food. On a regular basis the longue hosts jazz nights, vinyl sessions, and Sunday 90’s R&B turns.

The food from this cozy hideout is inspired by black American authentic soul dishes. Some of the dishes on the menu include mac and cheese, chicken and waffles, burgers, fried chicken, and wings. We had salivating wild mushroom risotto bites and fried wings with mild habanero honey, lemon pepper, barbeque, and French fries for starters.

The tantalizingly delicious mains comprising mixed grill and T-bone steak with two sides were our stars of the night and to die for. They were deliciously prepared and succulent.

Drinks at Zurii are testament to the innovation and boundless creativity that define this joint. The mixologist did a fantabulous job with well-balanced let’s get free and ghost rider cocktails to end off the memorable night.

When it comes to exceptional service at Zurii, you are in for a treat. A well-informed waiter by the name of Nqobile stands ready to skillfully navigate you through the menu, providing suggestions with a warm and inviting attitude. The staff are highly attentive to your needs throughout your meal.

If you are looking for a positive energy, liveliness, cozy setting, and a great mature mood for an evening occasion, then Zurii is for you.
