REVIEW: Qbar brings Cape winelands right in the heart of Jozi

Share

We had a memorable encounter at the Qbar by Quoin Rock in Rosebank where we experienced the Cape winelands right in the heart of Jozi. It is a great place for anyone looking for an elite wine tasting experience identical with the Stellenbosch Winelands, while appreciating a simple yet delightful cuisine to match the beverage choices.

The breathtaking space was designed by Yuliya Gaiduk, merging cutting-edge techniques with a strong knowledge of aesthetics and practicality. She ensured that the space is visually splendid and intimate, guaranteeing an environment perfect for an evening outing with a companion.

As you look up the ceiling, you will experience an ambience of vineyards as the cabernet sauvignon leaves fills the space above. You will see features like a hand sketch of Simonsberg mountain, printed at big scale on the fixed glass panel above the main entrance. A brass finished pillar represents the strength and heritage of Quoin Rock’s vine and their branches, and a cabernet sauvignon Leaf wall panel is designed to illuminate the space at night.

Wine tastings

The white wine experience incorporates Festive MCC, Sauvignon Blanc, Knorhoek Chenin Blac, Chardonnay, and Vine Dried. Their red wine experience comes with Simonsberg Blend, Knorhoek Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Red Blend.

Wine lovers can expect to pay between R250 – R450 for tastings.

QSushi bar

Qbar has extended its space for a sushi haven, the QSushi bar. It is a new concept constructed with natural materials, light colour surfaces, clean lines, round mirrors, custom-made elements such as concrete reptile tile, lights doodles and solid wood shop fittings.

Our starters were most definitely to die for. We had freshly prepared sushi platter of Carlifornia rolls which were made of avocado and cucumber, spicy tuna, salmon with avocado and basil, and prawn mixed with avocado. The mouth-watering Rock N Roll made of shrimp tempura, avocado, salmon, spicy mayo and chives was also part of the platter.

Qbar food

We moved from Qsushi bar over to Qbar where we had beautifully made coal-fired broccoli amasi cream with goats cheese. Yakimono carrots with gremolata, buchu, goats cheese kept us wanting for more.

For the mains, the salivating wagyu rump with potato wedges that comes with kimchi mayo was delightfully made. The soft and succulent oxtail ragu with home-made and hand-cut pasta was without a doubt our star of the night.

For something sweet, the chocolate tart made with peanut butter and sea salt ice cream is on the offer. It is a simple, smooth and tasty dessert option.

Service and environment

As you enjoy the lovely meals paired with delightful wines, you’ll notice that the immaculate service is a true standout, with attentive and knowledgeable staff readily available to address any queries. Qbar brings a positive energy, liveliness and a good mood. Its coziness setting creates the perfect environment for any evening occasion.

Conclusion

You’ll definitely like Qbar if you enjoy a unique dining encounter designed for wine enthusiasts or anyone interested in exploring wine. If you are looking for a wine farm experience in the city while appreciating delicious food paired with the right choice of wine, then Qbar is without a doubt for you.

Guest can also purchase bottles of wine at the same price as sold on the farm in Stellenbosch.
