The attraction of the big city is like nothing else on the planet. The vivid lights. The career opportunities. The great restaurants. The bustling, on-the-go environment. And more! There’s no doubt that city life is incredible, however with so much going on, it’s essential to take a step back from day-to-day routine and give those tired batteries a bit of a recharge – after all, we’re only human.

Recently, we had an opportunity to do exactly that at Sibani Lodge and the experience was exactly as desired.

Sibani Lodge is a luxury retreat nestled within the Mount Savannah Game Reserve. It is a 60 km from Sandton, in an area best known for its scenic routes, hiking trails, and iconic attractions found in the Cradle of Humankind – one of eight World Heritage Sites in South Africa and the only one in Gauteng, South Africa.

The lodge is a brilliant getaway gem for those seeking a relaxing holiday not too far from the city – especially during the festive season after a hard-earned year. It is home to a large array of wildlife including giraffe, red hartebeest, kudu, impala, zebra and an impressive variety of bird life, flora and fauna.

The accommodation at Sibani Lodge comprises of 4 guest cottages, within walking distance from the main lodge. Cottages boast high thatch roofs, fireplaces, outdoor wood-fired hot tub and sun decks from which to appreciate the view over the landscape. It comes with the main lodge with dining room, lounge and outdoor swimming pool, to be enjoyed by all in-house guests.

We were fortunate enough to be booked in the luxury tent camp, situated 4.5km from the main lodge. The camp has five accommodation tents and a communal tented boma, where we had our dinner on the first night and breakfast the following morning.

The accommodation tents are designed to give you a sense of escaping from city life, but still offering touches of comfort, such as en suite shower room, private open-air wood-fired hot tub, hotel standard furniture encapsulated in soft solar lighting.

On the main lodge, a variety of on-site treatments are available including massages and facials. On-site activities include beautifully catered picnics, quad bike adventures, e-bikes (electronic bicycles), archery, mountain biking (bring own bicycle) and safari drives, and more.
