Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge has expanded its offering to ensure it remains the ideal desert haven where modern meets wilderness. Established in 2012, the lodge has been a firm favourite amongst locals and travellers alike as a luxurious, one-stop destination in the Kalahari.

Two-hundred and fifty kilometres away from Upington Airport, and only five kilometres from the popular Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, this family-owned and operated lodge has revamped its aesthetic taking inspiration from the natural surroundings, including the magnificent Northern Cape sky and the flora that paints olive green hues in the area, such as the haakbossuurgras, and kaalgras leaves.

Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge is well-known for its array of 32 strategically placed chalets, offering family, luxury, standard and business chalets, as well as 19 4-star campsites, each with its own ablution block and four of which are situated alongside their own chalet.

To add to the existing offerings, the Lodge’s portfolio has expanded to include Black Mane Butcher & Grill, founded by Head Chef and Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge owner SJ Koortzen, which pays tribute to the free-roaming black maned lions synonymous with the Kalahari and offers only the finest quality meat -including game meat – burgers, pies, artisanal sandwiches and gourmet pizzas – serving delectable meals suitable for all palates. A grocery shop, Black Mane On-the-Go, with eco-friendly and biodegradable packaging, is also available on-site offering on-the-go meals for travellers making their way through the Kalahari. Further to this, the Lodge has launched its own 4×4 hire, Oryx 4×4, for visitors to the Kalahari looking to explore the many attractions the area has on offer.

In addition to the new amenities, the Lodge has furthered their conservation efforts by planting man-made hedges around each of the chalets in order to protect the fauna and flora, and to stimulate plant growth recovery. Other measures include the utilisation of solar energy to supply electricity, as well as water conservation efforts such as the use of borehole water.

On their recent developments, owners SJ and Denise Koortzen, say: “Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge has seen immense growth in visitors over the years due to our team’s dedication and passion to hospitality. As such, we wanted to transform our Lodge into a truly full-service destination, catering to not only our guests’ every need, but visitors too looking for an effortless stop along their journey.”

Previously having won a Certificate of Excellence Award for Northern Cape accommodation, Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge continues to offer guests a proudly natural environment for a luxurious South African getaway. Whether you’re looking to explore in the nearby Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, enjoy a lazy afternoon under the Kalahari sun, or tantalise your tastebuds with delectable cuisine, Kgalagadi Lifestyle Lodge is a must-visit destination for unforgettable memories.
