REVIEW: Wellness with soul and style at @Sandton Hotel

Share

Sandton has no shortage of ways to fill your day, but few places manage to make time slow down quite like @Sandton Spa located within @Sandton Hotel on Benmore Road. Stepping inside feels like crossing into a different pace altogether. The air is cooler, the design is sleek, and there’s an immediate sense that this is a space built with intention—not just for pampering, but for genuinely restoring you.

We came here after a busy week, keen on the idea of a massage but curious about what else @Sandton Spa could offer. It’s a cool, contemporary, world-class facility that takes the idea of wellness seriously without making it intimidating. Whether you’re there for an impeccable manicure, a facial that winds back the hands of time, or simply to let someone else take care of you for an hour, it’s a place where the details matter.

The layout includes both single and couple private treatment rooms, giving guests the option to set their own pace and level of privacy. The therapists have a naturally attentive approach, checking in just enough to ensure comfort without breaking the sense of ease. @Sandton Spa menu covers a wide range of treatments—from gentle, restorative therapies to more targeted options aimed at muscle tension or circulation—and the rooms themselves feel warm and inviting without being overly dim or heavy.

Facials here go well beyond the standard cleanse-and-moisturise. Options such as Skinovage Vitalizing and Clearformance are aimed at nourishing and re-energising the skin, while Doctor Babor Lifting Cellular focuses on achieving a firmer, more sculpted effect. There’s also the Therapro Peel—a treatment that sounds clinical but is designed to feel indulgent, leaving the skin refreshed and smooth without any harshness. Therapists take the time to explain each step if guests are curious, or work quietly for those who’d prefer to simply relax.

It’s not just about the face, either. Body treatments range from exfoliating scrubs to wraps that hydrate and soften, and there’s attention given to smaller touches like tinting for brows and lashes. Hands and feet get the same care, with manicures and pedicures that feel like full treatments in themselves rather than quick appointments. @Sandton Spa caters to every age group, even offering “tiny tots” options for kids and dedicated teen treatments—a thoughtful way to make wellness accessible from an early age.

The unisex sauna and steam room are also fascinating features. They’re open to all guests, and they’re exactly the kind of place you want to linger after a treatment. The heat is balanced perfectly—enough to encourage a good sweat without feeling oppressive—and stepping from steam to a cool rinse is its own small luxury.

@Sandton Spa isn’t only about relaxation; it also houses COCO Pilates Studio, a boutique space that brings a completely different kind of energy. This is not a crowded, high-intensity workout room, but a calm, focused environment where every session feels tailored to you. With three Allegro 2 Body Balance Reformers, the studio offers spring-based resistance training that challenges and strengthens in a controlled, supportive way. We noticed they offer semi-private reformer sessions, led by instructors who strike a balance between professionalism and approachability—guiding you with just the right amount of challenge without it feeling like a drill. Movements can be tailored to different ability levels, with a focus on form that leaves guests feeling taller and more open rather than fatigued.

There’s a personal touch at COCO Pilates that makes it stand out. Every client’s needs and goals are taken seriously, whether you’re recovering from an injury, looking to build strength, or simply wanting to move more mindfully. The instructors seem to genuinely enjoy helping people improve, and that energy makes a difference. It also helps that the studio shares @Sandton Spa’s clean, calming aesthetic, so the transition from a workout to a treatment feels seamless.

Throughout our visit, we noticed how effortlessly the space balances variety and cohesion. You can come in for a single treatment or spend an entire day moving from pilates to massage to steam room, and it all feels part of the same journey. The team are skilled without being clinical, warm without being overfamiliar, and they’ve created a space where every guest—whether they’re here for a quick manicure or a full package—is treated with the same level of care.

Even without booking a treatment, we walked away with a sense of calm and quiet re-energising—proof that a well-designed @Sandton Spa is about far more than its menu of services. It’s the way every element works in harmony: the warm welcome at the door, the quality of the products on display, the evident expertise of the therapists, and the rare feeling of being given both time and space to simply be. In the heart of Johannesburg’s busiest district, @Sandton Spa still manages to offer exactly that.
