When it comes to dining out in Sandton, few experiences compare to the warmth of exceptional service paired with mouthwatering dishes that leave you craving more. The vibrant atmosphere of the area, combined with the refined culinary offerings, creates an unforgettable dining experience. So, when we decided to visit Pappas, a family-owned gem nestled in the heart of the bustling Nelson Mandela Square, we were eager to indulge in the authentic Greek and Mediterranean flavours the restaurant is celebrated for.
As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a warm smile and seated at a cozy table with a view of the square. The ambiance was inviting – elegant yet relaxed, with soft lighting that created a welcoming atmosphere. The decor blended classic sophistication with modern touches, making it feel both upscale and approachable.

We began our meal with a trio of starters that set the tone for the rest of the evening. First up were the Meatballs Yiaourtlou, a delightful mix of lamb and beef served with a chunky tomato sauce and a generous dollop of thick Greek yoghurt. The meatballs were tender and flavourful, and the tangy yoghurt balanced the richness of the tomato sauce perfectly.

Next, we tried the Lamb Lollipops – trimmed rib chops marinated in olive oil, lemon juice, and oregano. These were an absolute treat! The meat was succulent and packed with zesty, herbaceous flavours. We couldn’t get enough of them.

Finally, we sampled the Grilled Calamari, which was lightly seasoned with herbs and garlic, then finished with a dash of olive oil and lemon juice. The dish was tender, not rubbery, and the simplicity of the seasoning allowed the freshness of the seafood to shine.
For our mains, we opted for two dishes that showcased the diversity of the menu. The Beef Short Rib Pasta was a standout – slow-cooked beef short rib served over linguine with a rich tomato and garlic sauce. The meat was melt-in-your-mouth tender, and the pasta was cooked to perfection. It was comfort food at its finest.

We also tried the Lamb Burger, which was a delightful surprise. The juicy lamb patty was topped with crispy lettuce, balsamic red onion, and a refreshing mint yoghurt. The combination of flavours was incredible, and the burger was served with a side of perfectly seasoned fries. It was a dish that left us completely satisfied.
To accompany our meals, we ordered the Spicy Chai and Red Cappuccino. The Spicy Chai was aromatic and warming, with just the right amount of spice to complement the bold flavours of our dishes. The Red Cappuccino, made with rooibos tea, was a unique and delicious alternative to traditional coffee. Both drinks were the perfect way to round out our meal.

Our evening was nothing short of magical. The food was exceptional, the ambiance was inviting, and the service was impeccable. Whether you’re craving authentic Greek and Mediterranean flavours or simply looking for a memorable dining experience in Sandton, Pappas is the place to go. The restaurant exudes a sense of pride and passion that is evident in every detail – from the thoughtfully crafted menu to the attentive service.
Pappas is a true gem, and we can’t wait to return. Opa!
